To maintain the safety and respect for our neighbors and environment, we have a few necessary rules, there are certain policies we must respect and enforce to keep everyone comfortable.

The parking policy

The Sawyers Cluster Parking Policy was established in order to help ensure all residents can find access to parking spaces. Each homeowner has the right to one reserved space and two parking tags that will allow general parking in unreserved spaces. All parking in unreserved spaces requires a parking tag and is on a first come, first serve basis.

The Sawyers Cluster Board enforces the parking rules by use of a third party towing company. Towing is enforced at all times for improperly parked cars and cars without correct parking tags. Additionally, if an owner finds someone else's car in their reserved spot, they may notify the board to have them removed.

If you suspect your car has been towed, please contact the towing company at the number listed on the signs near the parking lot entrances.

If you lose a tag, no worries, you can contact us to arrange payment of $25 and pick up the new tag.

trash and recyclables

We have two trash pick-up days and one recyclable pick-up day. Tuesday and Friday are pick-up days for trash. Wednesday is pick-up for recyclables. Yard waste in paper bags or clearly marked containers is picked up on Wednesdays, but only from Spring through Fall.

Specialty items will be disposed for a fee paid by the homeowner. For example, construction waste is NOT part of the normal trash service. The homeowner should call Patriot Disposal at
(703) 257-7100 to arrange disposal of specialty items.

Christmas tree disposal is also available in January. Dates change each year and will be posted on mailboxes at the applicable time.

Yard waste

Don't leave yard waste in public areas, including our wooded common areas. It is against Reston Association regulations because it harms the environment by burying the natural ground cover. Instead, please dispose through Patriot Disposal's yard waste service, which offers pickups of yard waste in paper bags or properly marked containers on Wednesdays from Spring through Fall.

Leaf Collection

Every Fall, usually on three occasions from mid-November through early December, our landscaping company collects leaves throughout the neighborhood. Please rake leaves into piles placed along easily accessible common areas, such as edges of the parking log, or the green spaces along the sides or rear of homes.

Pet waste

If you own or are watching a pet, please understand that pet waste is not allowed on public property.  You must pick up after your pet.

The color palette

You may have noticed repetition of several colors within the Sawyers Cluster Community.  This redundancy is purposeful and helps maintain an overall compatible look that keeps our area attractive.  The Reston Association dictates our color palette and enforces conformance.  However, suggestions are always welcome.  See attached for the current (of 8/29/2014) accepted color choices.  The Reston Association should always be contacted prior to any exterior painting.

exterior changes

Even though the changes you are planning on making to the exterior of your home might look good, they most likely will require approval by the Reston Association Design Review Board first.  Not all, but the majority of physical changes to the exterior of a building and some yard will require approval from the DRB.  Follow this link for the official procedure and application.  Reston Association DRB.

Invasive plant ban

We are surrounded by nature, both natural and planned.  We are fighting a battle with aggressive plants that threaten to suffocate and kill off the natural plants that keep our area looking great.  Please help our fight and do not plant the following (banned) plants:  English Ivy, Flowering Pears, Bamboo, Burning Bush, Oriental Bittersweet, Bush Honeysuckle, and Japanese Barberry.

Further information can be found on the Reston Association website located HERE.
